The basic home recording of ‘Suppose’ features Elvis’ voice and piano by Charlie Hodge and was recorded sometime in late 1966/early 1967 at 10550 Rocca Place, Bel Air, California. Because the bootleg Celluloid Rock Volume 2 used the original 3 (or 4?) Track tape, it was possible for them to give the impression of four different overdubs of this song, when in reality, it was all just the same track! Sessions III also lists an earlier overdub session on January 18 too, although it is not listed by Ernst Jørgensen in A Life In Music. Perhaps that session was initially intended just to overdub backing vocals to the original home recording, but then the idea was abandoned in favour of recording a new backing track and adding backing vocals. In March of 2007, Sony decided to go through all of Elvis’ masters. They retransferred everything and remastered all tracks including repairing as many clicks, pops, bad edits and dropouts as they could. They have used these newly mastered recordings on their new releases since 2007 including budget soundtracks, Legacy releases, the 30 disc Complete Elvis Presley Masters collection and the Franklin Mint package. |
