All songs on the Double Features release have left and right channels reversed. The master of ‘Clambake’ on Double Features has a noticable drum beat missing at the end of the song. Take 11 of ‘Clambake’ that appeared on Silver Screen Stereo is actually Take 3B. The listing mistake probably arose due to the editing on that release, and the Take 12 announcement, as Take 1 of the reprise follows straight after this. The reprise must have been recorded straight after the main version of ‘Clambake’, and Felton mistakingly called Take 12, before the engineer correctly announced Take 1. In the ‘In & Outtakes’ section of the booklet with FTD’s Clambake extended soundtrack, it’s indicated that Ray Walker and Elvis’ vocal overdubs were done separately for ‘Who Needs Money?’, along with a ‘cue’ vocal overdub and an ‘insert’ vocal overdub. My guess is that the ‘cue’ vocal overdub of ‘Who Needs Money?’ is the part that is on the record version but not the movie version (1:36 – 2:01 of record version), and the ‘insert’ vocal overdub (done on March 6) is Elvis’ re-recorded ‘ending’. Elvis did a vocal repair on ‘Confidence’ on March 6, and this was the vocal used for the movie version. The movie version however, had children singing along, probably recorded on the movie set. The record version of ‘Confidence’ had a re-recorded first verse (probably recorded sometime between August 17 and September 11), and also had female vocals overdubbed on September 19. In March of 2007, Sony decided to go through all of Elvis’ masters. They retransferred everything and remastered all tracks including repairing as many clicks, pops, bad edits and dropouts as they could. They have used these newly mastered recordings on their new releases since 2007 including budget soundtracks, Legacy releases, the 30 disc Complete Elvis Presley Masters collection and the Franklin Mint package. |
